Community Project: Coachella Valley

Community Project: Coachella Valley
For my community project I went home for thanksgiving break and decided to photography my home/community and show people what it looks like as well as try to bring some awareness to the things happening there. The Coachella Valley is known for its agriculture, it markets over 60 varieties of orchard and vegetable crops. The reason I decided to photograph the valley and specifically the fields there was because the Valley is currently facing a drought and many farmers/ranchers are being affected by it, which is not only decreasing the amount of crops being grown but it is also making many lose money as well as impacting the job of many field workers. All these images were taken around 10-11 am, which gave the images a really bright look, however I decided to lower the exposure a little. I would of loved photographing the farmers/ranchers/workers and maybe asking them a little bit more about the situation the valley faces, but unfortunately I was only in the valley for two days and didn't get to see anyone working on them. Getting to learn a little bit more about what is going on in my community was really nice because not only did it make me realize that so many things are constantly happening in the world that may affect us but it also reminded me about the importance of saving water. I truly hope that this project/story reminds others to be more mindful about the way we use water, and we begin to change our habits.
